Although solar and lunar eclipses are a natural phenomenon we are able to experience to a certain degree on a yearly basis, this complete solar eclipse was the first in 99 years to traverse the United States from coast to coast. The eclipse traveled in a complete diagonal line through 12 US states. It was a spectacular sight that was enjoyed by many Americans considering its generous traveling path. Within its last moments in the US it passed over Nashville where the peak of the eclipse happened around mid-afternoon. It shrouded the city in complete darkness for a couple of minutes, imitating the night sky, before moving swiftly past the sun to finish its rotation.
